Some Facts about Evansville:

History
Evansville was born on 200 acres of land purchased from the government in 1812 by Hugh McGary, Jr. McGary enlisted General Robert M. Evans, an attorney and territorial legislator for whom Evansville was ultimately named, to assist in incorporating Evansville as a city. Evansville was officially incorporated on January 27, 1847 and has served as the economic and social hub for the Tri-State area since that time.

Time
Unlike the majority of Indiana, Evansville is in the Central Time Zone. The Evansville area observes Central Standard Time from the last Sunday in October through the first Sunday in April, and Central Daylight Time the remainder of the year.

Weather
The average monthly temperature in January is 39 degrees Fahrenheit; in July, 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall is fairly constant throughout the year with an annual average of 42.31 inches.

Foreign Currency
Fifth Third Bank will allow immediate credit on all common currency. Old National Bank will process foreign currency through American Express. Please allow for 7-10 days turnaround. Integra Bank offers foreign exchange services.

Traffic
Indiana law permits right turns on red following a complete stop, unless a sign prohibiting this is visible. Left turns on red are legal providing that the turn is made from a one-way street onto a one-way street. Speed limits are generally 30 mph on city streets and 55 mph on expressways.

Alcoholic Beverages
Alcoholic beverages may be purchased Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Purchasers must be 21 years of age. Sunday, liquor is served in most restaurants, but must be consumed on the premises. Sunday hours for services of liquor are 12:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
