Our New 8E4

8 Engine 4  a newer version of 8 Engine 7. It was put in service in 2004. It is first due in for southern part of the district. It is a Pumper/Tanker capable of pumping 1000 GPM and storing 2100 gallons of water and has a dumper valve in the rear.

8 Engine 4 and 8 Engine 7 are a bit unusual in that they can serve as the role of a pumper and a tanker whereas most of the departments trucks usually serve one role better than the other.  It features a six-person cab allowing five fire fighters in full fire fighting gear including SCBA to sit safely inside on the way to an incident and be ready to fight a fire on arrival. The driver is usually not in full gear since he operates the pump. It is equipped with a 25 gallon tank for Class A Foam and with a flick of a switch can use either plain water or foam. It replaced another fire truck that had been in service for 25 years!  It has a Command Light Tower above the cab that can be aimed in any direction. Above the tank is a hose bed that holds 1000 feet of large diameter ( 5 inch) hose that can be used with a hydrant. Very easily laid out but no fun to pick up. It is housed at Company 8.

These pictures was taken early Sunday Morning on Oct 5th 2003 on the grounds of The Old Evansville State Hospital. One of the places we do training at. A small group of us was doing a "saving your own" type class, a very intense Search & Rescue class where our SCBA Mask is covered so we can not see, then we go through a maze of obstacles as we very well could in real cases in houses, dept stores, businesses, etc.
