My Idea's and Out look on Life and Such...
Not everyone will agree with what I have to say. Not everything I say may be found to be the TRUTH because truth itself is dynamic. What may be truth today, may not be tommorrow. In fact some may argue that the truth is what can be proven to stand the test of time. Truth is truth because we keep on proving it to be true. So in the interest of free discourse...please censor yourself.
WHAT IS NORMAL??
Normal is such a subjective state of being. Any way you try to answer this simple question I pose is arguable. Is everything that exists justified as "normal" or "natural" by the sheer virtue of its existence. Or does the unnatural naturally occur in nature? Are we all simply characterized by some deviation from the mean and those who lie outside three standard deviations should simply be discarded as outliers? Einstein once said, "As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality. " If no one ever deviated from the mean, how would we have advanced? Once long ago, Christopher Columbus believed that the world was not flat, but round. That notion was certainly not normal. Where would we be today had he conformed to society's notion of "normal" ? What would happen if no one ever deviated from the norm? Normal changes with our time and perception.
In a society so concerned with
"norms" and opinions, my advice is simple.
Just Be You!
Humans...
One day people will look back up our age and exclaim
"What a horrible time it must have been!" You mean people actually believed that
such superficial differences as race, gender, creed, or sexual orientation could define a
whole human being? You mean there was a time when individuality was NOT valued? What do
you mean prejudices? discrimination? Those are not words...not in our dictionary?
I truly believe that the internet is the first step towards resolving our differences.
No longer does distance prevent the free flow of ideas. People of like and unlike minds
can meet in a safe environment to discuss any topic with out prejudice because on the net
you do not know if the person is male or female, black or white, gay or straight, old or
young, straight edge or stoner.
Diversity should not be taboo in our society. Individuality should not be seen as
something that needs to be destroyed, rather it should be something we celebrate. Instead
of working to limit the rights and opportunities of our fellow man, we should be giving
them our blessings. Find new ways and new possibilities. For example, instead of our
society speculating about gay marriages and whether we feel it's appropriate or not...give
them the opportunity to prove themselves. I mean hell, with the current 50% divorce rate
they can't do much worse than tradition marriages. Look at the statistics...the
"Traditional Nuclear Family" that politicians rant and rave about IS the
alternative lifestyle in America today. Diversity is the key to evolution, it ultimately
protects us against extinction.
We find that all males aren't pigs, all women aren't psycho, blacks are not less intelligent, jocks and blondes are not always stupid and ditzy, preppys are not always arrogant and self-centered, and gays can be people just like you and anyone else! But mostly, we learn that we are all more alike than different. We learn that with a little work, we CAN all get along; and more importantly, we can learn a great deal from each other. Strength and Unity come through understanding and diversity, not in spite of it.
The Net..
There is nothing in the world more disturbing than all the talk about "Censoring the
Net." Yes there is pornographic material on the net (but not on my page!),
yes there are ideas and views on the net I don't like, yes there may be material
unsuitable for children on the net. But...the net is only a reflection of reality!!!!! All
of these ideas exist elsewhere too!!! Would you relinquish your right to free speech
because some people have ideas that you do not like? After all, if we ban them from
speaking their peace, what is to stop them from doing the same to you? What justification
do you have to say that your opinions are the law? Even within this century, classic
novels such as Huck Finn are still banned by many US school districts. Would we dare
start banning playboy and other magazines because they contain pornographic material?
There is a fine line between pornography and art, and I'm certainly not going to be the
one to draw that line. Not to mention, such magazines are sold right along side the top
records and tapes your kids buy. Please tell me your not naive enough to believe that kids
do not have access to this kind of material from sources other than the internet. And
frankly with all this talk about protecting our children, it is the parents'
responsibility to raise their own children, not mine!!!
It is about time everyone took some responsibility for themselves. If you find
pornographic pictures offensive...don't look at them!!! I may not like what someone has to
say, but i will not be the one to start censoring ideas. If you do not like what someone
has to say...do something constructive and write your own DAMN page to tell the world
about it. Then let me decide for myself what I wish to read or view!!!!
